History of the Band

Daniel P. Keener and Alvin M. Hildebrand organized the Red Lion Concert Band July 4, 1932. A small German band, organized some four or five years prior to 1932, was the forerunner of this band. Alvin Hildebrand was the band's first director.

The Felton Band was established in 1892 and incorporated on February 20, 1893. Mr. William G. Reichard was this band's first director. The Red Lion Concert Band and the Felton Band merged to become the Red Lion Felton Band in April 1972.

Together, the Red Lion Felton Bands have been entertaining Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey and Delaware residents for over 118 years. The band is currently under the direction of William Ritz.

Hershaull Park:
From Red Lion - Follow Rt 24 south 5 miles. Turn left onto Church Road at Olphin's Junkyard. Follow Church Road into Crossroads. Go straight through at the 5 way intersection. Stay to the right at the "V". Pass Round Hill Church on the right. The Park is on the left at the bottom of the hill.
From Delta - Follow Rt. 74 north. After passing through the Brogue, turn left onto Felton Road (Main St Extd). Follow this road through Felton. Turn Left onto Red Lion / Felton road. Follow this road to the stop sign in Crossroads. Bear diagonally left at the 5 way intersection. Stay to the right at the "V". Pass Round Hill Church on the right. The Park is on the left at the bottom of the hill.

Wolf Picnic Grove:
From York - Follow Rt 30 west to the end of the York By-Pass. Turn left at the first light. This is the Christmas Tree Hill intersection. Go 1 block and turn right. Continue until you pass Wolf's Church. Turn left at the "T" and go up the hill. The picnic grove is on the left in the woods.

Salem Union Church (Dover):
From Red Lion - Follow Rt. 74, the Carlisle Pike, to Dover. At the square in Dover turn left onto Canal Road. Travel about 1/2 mile. After you pass the church on the right, the picnic grounds will be on your right.

Indian Steps Museum:
From Red Lion - Follow Rt 74 south about 12 mi. to Airville. Turn left onto Rt 425 west to Otter Creek. Follow 425 about 3 mi. At the bottom of the hill on the sharp left-hand bend, turn right. Continue about 1 mile to Indian Steps Museum on the left.
From Delta - Follow Rt. 74 north about 10 miles to Airville. Turn right onto Rt 425 west to Otter Creek. Follow 425 about 3 mi. At the bottom of the hill on the sharp left-hand bend, turn right. Continue about 1 mile to Indian Steps Museum on the left.

St. Paul's UCC:
From Red Lion - Follow Broadway west to the square of Dallastown. Continue 2 or 3 blocks and you will see the Church on the right. Turn right onto School Place, parking in the rear of the Church.
From York - Follow Queen Street Extended south into Dallastown. The church will be on your left. Turn left onto School Place, parking in the rear of the Church.

Country Meadows, Leader Heights:
Turn South off Leader Heights road at the traffic on Pine Grove road. Travel past the Holiday Inn and bear right to Country Meadows. The center building is 2760, we perform in the Chapel on the 3rd floor.

Approximately 15 miles south of Red Lion on Route 74, 1/2 mile on the right after passing the Airville Fire Hall.

From Red Lion - follow North Main Street, PA 24 to East High Street, PA 624. Turn right and continue 6.4 miles. Turn left at Abels Road, Rt 124, continue until you see the school on the left.
